Stoke-on-Trent MPs encourage volunteers to step up
Stoke-on-Trent’s MPs have urged people with spare time and energy to consider volunteering, using Stoke-on-Trent’s established volunteer network at VAST.
Jo Gideon, Jack Bereton and Jonathan Gullis all volunteered at the Tunstall Mass Vaccination centre on Saturday, assisting with non-medical tasks such as organising attendees and ensuring COVID safety measures are followed.
Across the UK, people have volunteered for a range of activities linked to the vaccine rollout, from acting as taxis for less mobile people to get to their vaccination centre, to helping move equipment to centres in more rural areas.
Jo Gideon MP said:
“Our local army of volunteers have been vital to our response throughout this pandemic. By supporting our community testing centres like at Hanley Town Football Club, and helping with the roll out of the vaccine at Tunstall Mass Vaccination centre, volunteers across Stoke-on-Trent are key to us being able to get out of lockdown and getting us back to the more normal life we all want.”
Jack Brereton MP said:
“I’d like to thank all the health workers who have been doing an amazing job administering vaccines to the most vulnerable and frontline health and care staff across our city. I have seen first-hand these incredible efforts and would also like to thank those who have volunteered, helping support the vaccination efforts. To people who are thinking of volunteering locally, please do visit the VAST website for more information. “
Jonathan Gullis MP said:
“The incredible effort of our NHS heroes in getting jabs into arms is inspirational. I also want to thank and recognise the incredible local volunteers from Stoke-on-Trent, Kidsgrove and Talke, as well as our brave ex-service men and women who are part of RE:ACT, for giving up so many hours to ensure we continue to get vaccinations completed as quickly and safely as possible.”
