£1,083,577 extra funding for Stoke-on-Trent this Winter
Families in Stoke-on-Trent hardest hit by the pandemic will receive support with their food and bills from £1,083,577 of Government funding this winter.
The Covid Winter Grant Scheme will see councils across England share this extra £170m funding on top of the £63m already provided to councils this year.
A further £220 million will be invested in extending the Holiday and Food Programme until next Christmas meaning that all children eligible for Free School Meals will have the option to join a holiday time programme that provides healthy food and fun activities during the summer, Christmas and Easter holidays next year.
Jo Gideon, the MP for Stoke-On-Trent Central, commented: “No child should ever go hungry so I’m delighted the Government is offering even more support on top of the £9 billion extra which has been put into the welfare system this year.
“The Covid Winter Grant Scheme is direct targeted local support which will be much more effective in supporting children and families in need than free school meals in school holidays.
“This comprehensive support package will help families with their bills, food and offer fun activities for children during the school holidays.”
